A few things worth deciding on before installation day, not after.
Drop-in sinks are the simplest install and work with almost any countertop. Undermount sinks look cleaner and are easier to wipe counters into, but require solid surface countertops (stone, quartz) — not laminate.
Stainless steel is the most common and budget-friendly. Cast iron and fireclay resist scratches and hold up longer but weigh significantly more — worth flagging if you're on an upper floor without elevator access. Composite granite splits the difference on durability and price.
Double basins help with separating wash and rinse, but eat into usable counter space — a real constraint in most NYC kitchens. Single large basins are increasingly common in renovations for exactly that reason.
